AOL's 800 number when traveling (surcharges apply)

Accessing AOL while traveling has never been easier!
In Canada:
   If you are traveling for business or pleasure and need access to AOL in a location where there are no local AOL access numbers, you can access AOL anywhere in Canada at speeds up to 57.6 Kbps using AOLnet and the number 1-800-318-2265. Your AOL account An Account is your relationship with AOL. It is generally represented by the first screen name (Primary Master Screen Name) you created when you became an AOL member. You must be 18 years old to register for an AOL Account. Once you have registered for an account you can create up to seven screen names for your family. will be charged a surcharge of 10 cents (Canadian) per minute, or CDN$6.00 per hour, for the entire time you are connected using this number (even during your free trial period or time spent in an unlimited usage area).
Please note that depending on your location, long distance telephone company charges may be less expensive than the use of the 800 number.  We recommend that you check with your long distance provider to determine applicable rates. If you have any problems connecting with this number, go to Keyword: Access, and click "Report a Problem" in the list box.

In the United States:
  In the U.S. you can access AOL locally from many locations. See keyword: Access for roaming charges. If there are no local AOL access phone numbers in the American location you've travelled to, you can use the AOLnet number 1-800-716-0023, anywhere in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) at speeds of up to 28.8 Kbps (up to 14.4 Kbps for VFC modems). The charge is 10 cents a minute (U.S.), or $6.00 per hour (U.S.), for the entire time you are connected using this number (even during a free trial period or for time spent in an unlimited usage area).
Print out and follow the instructions below to create a new location to store alternative access numbers.

To Create a New Location File to Store Alternate Access Numbers:

1. On the Sign On screen, click SETUP
2. On the Edit AOL Setup window, click the ADD LOCATION button. 
3. On the Add Location window, click on the "Select the 800 surcharged access number" selection. 
4. Select the number of times you want your modem to try connecting to the location (for example, if the number is busy). 
5. Type a name for the new location (for example, 800 surcharged access) then click NEXT.  (If your AOL software needs to dial a toll free number at this point to retrieve a list of 800 surcharged access numbers proceed to step 6, if it does not proceed to Step 8.) 
6. In the "Get AOL Access Phone Numbers Online" window select any special circumstances applicable to your phone line then click NEXT
7. The AOL software will dial a toll free number to get a list of available 800 surcharged access numbers, when it has completed retrieving numbers it will automatically log off. 
8. On the "Select AOL Access Phone Numbers" window click in the checkbox next to the phone number to select it, then click NEXT
9. On the "Access Numbers You've Selected" window select any special circumstances applicable to your phone line (ie, disabling call waiting) then click NEXT
10. On the "Confirm Current Locations" window click FINISH
11. On the Sign On screen confirm that the correct Location is selected, then click SIGN ON.   
 
Reminder: If you create a new locality to use when traveling be sure to change it back to the appropriate selection upon your return.
Additional Charges May Be Incurred

There are additional surcharges for using the 1-800 number if you have chosen the Bring Your Own Access billing plan. Please check the terms at Keyword: Billing before you use either of these numbers to connect to AOL.  For all other AOL members, the charge is 10 cents a minute, or $6.00 per hour, for the entire time you are connected using this number (even during your free trial period).
